Sydney 2018 Invictus Games

Sydney hosted the fourth edition of the Invictus Games in October 2018, an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and ill veteran and active defence personnel. Host broadcaster ABC provided extensive multi-platform live coverage. David Clark provided the ABC hosts, commentators and producers with a complete Games overview including athlete bios, team overviews, daily updates and other anecdotal content. PYEONGCHANG OLYMPICS 2018 Flag

PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games

Seven and 7mate screened live coverage across two weeks of competition, with additional coverage via an OlympicsOn7 app. Prior to the games, David Clark provided a complete overview of all events and athletes with previous records and expected highlights, who to watch and anecdotal comments and quirks to the Seven commentary team. In addition he was on hand during the games to update and quickly assist commentators as events unfolded.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Australia sent its biggest team for an overseas Games (486 athletes) for the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games in July-August 2021 which were broadcast across 45 dedicated Olympic channels across Seven and 7plus. Broadcast figures were up 71% on Rio 2016, while 4.74 billion minutes were streamed on 7plus through its digital channels.

The coverage anchors included Hamish McLachlan, Johanna Griggs and Matt Shirvington from their Melbourne studios, with a team of callers led by Bruce McAvaney (athletics), Basil Zempilas (swimming) and Scott McGrory (cycling). Leading the reporting contingent on the ground in Tokyo were Mel McLaughlin, Mark Beretta, Jason Richardson and Nathan Templeton.

Ahead of the Games, David created a suite of research documents for hosts, commentators, reporters and producers including biographies of key athletes, a comprehensive Games Preview featuring information about each sport, storylines to follow and possible milestones, as well as detailed guides and athlete profiles for the swimming and track cycling commentators.


Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

Seven was Australia’s exclusive broadcaster for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, with live coverage on channels 7, 7TWO, 7mate as well as the 7CommGames app.

Prior to the Games, David compiled a suite of research documents including detailed Games Preview, a guide to each sport as well as information about competing nations and their Games history in the Parade of Nations. During the Games, he led a team of eight researchers providing support to hosts live on air and produced a Daily Preview distributed to over 300 production crew to help focus on athletes and storylines to follow ahead of each day of the Games.
